Guys and flip flops?

I%26#039;m a 20 year old guy. I live in a place where it gets cool but it never really gets cold (I never really get cold). I like wearing my flip flops in the summer with shorts, but I%26#039;ve never worn them with jeans. Should guys wear flip flops in the winter with jeans or not.

Reply:Not mine. I wear flipflops all the time. They don%26#039;t make your feet sweat because of all the air they are getting so they won%26#039;t stink. But it%26#039;s a pain in the neck to have them get dirty so easily.





I always wash my feet with soap and water in the bathtub or sink before putting on flipflops. Make sure that you do that too.

Reply:Try the Crocs brand flip flops. They are very comfortable and they have something in them to keep them from smelling bad. They are slightly pricey, but worth every penny.

It seems to me that people who wear flip flops have crusty feet. Almost like the skin is peeling off. The always look red and raw. The toe nailes are not much better either. People like myself that often wears shoes and socks have soft smooth soles. Does wearing flips flops all tthe time make your feet ugly? It seems the lack of support is also bad for them.

I always go barefoot and my feet don%26#039;t look anything like you described, they%26#039;re not soft but the toughness is a leathery toughness, no crusts, no redness, no cracks, nothing like that at all. In fact I%26#039;ve never seen a barefooter who had ugly feet, most of those things are caused by closed shoes and especially women%26#039;s shoes with pointed toes... I think what may be the problem is that the people who wear flipflops do so on hot days only while wearing ill-fitting fashion footwear the rest of the time. If you%26#039;re a man, you won%26#039;t have as much of a problem with that because your footwear is at least mostly foot-shaped; women%26#039;s footwear usually isn%26#039;t, forcing the foot to become shoe-shaped and that goes along with redness, corns, peeling skin, etc. But it%26#039;s those closed fashion-shoes that *make* the foot ugly; you just don%26#039;t *see* it until they take off those closed shoes and put their feet in the flipflops.





Lack of support is basically not bad for feet; a survey in Asia showed the barefoot rikshaw coolies who ran barefoot on pavement all day long had very, very few foot problems, far less in fact than shoe-wearing Western folks. But a flipflop would be worse than going barefoot; barefoot, I land on the ball of the foot rather than on the heel, so the entire foot can act as a shock absorber. This is the gliding walk you also may%26#039;ve seen on documentaries from barefoot people carrying jugs of water on their heads and such... while I%26#039;ve never practiced that, I do have a very smooth gait going barefoot. Any shoe that sports a stiff sole would be worse than barefooting for lack of support; it%26#039;d prevent the natural shock absorbing, while not providing anything in return.

Well I am from New Zealand and we call them jandals, which I think sounds much better than flip flops or thongs but then again I am used to it! I live in Australia though and everyone calls them thongs or flip fliops so I get picked on by my friends about calling them jandals!

At the bank I work at they say that they dont allow flip-flops because of the flopping sound they make and they dont look professional. Other sandals make flopping sounds too but I agree they arent proffesional looking :)

Without knowing the type of work you do, I can only guess that you are not a lifeguard. In my profession (engineering) these would be considered very un-professional to wear.





Meanwhile, sandals are more dressy. Sandals, especially women%26#039;s, can be dressier than regular shoes.

Reply:Well, I%26#039;m a barista, and my boss doesn%26#039;t allow flip-flops, either. He says its more for safety reasons - spilling hot water or milk on my foot would really hurt! But since you ARE allowed to wear sandals, I%26#039;d suggest something neutral that would go with your uniform (I%26#039;m not sure what you wear), and something comfortable if you%26#039;re on your feet all day. Flats are a great idea, they look cute, they%26#039;re comfortable, and they cover your toes. Or, if you do like sandals, try AE%26#039;s selection of wedges and non-flip-flop sandals! Reply:Is it a community bathroom, or do you have a suite? I had a suite where I shared a bathroom with 3 other girls and I was alright a few times without flip flops. If it%26#039;s a community bathroom, I%26#039;d probably go buy some cheap ones (you can get them for a buck or two at Walmart).

Reply:No, and in general you would never see a older generation person in Mexico wearing flip flops. In the past those shoes in Mexico were only for your hired help. Today since many Mexicans travel to the US they pick up trends from over here and take them back home. But in general it is not something common.

They are both cute...AHHH to be 16 and able to wear skinny jeans again:) SO, Target has metallic flats cheap that are very trendy with skinnys and they will get you through fall etc as the weather changes! Match it up with a tunic and long earrings for the bohemian look BUT REMEMBER...How you feel about yourself in your clothes takes you much farther than the clothes themselves! Buy things you love and wear them withe great confidence! THAT%26#039;s the secret:)

white old navy flip flops are chhep enough to just by a new pair when they get funky, that dirt wont come out my friend put bleach on hers to no avail.

i just bought some old navy flip flops. they%26#039;re kinda a gold color and they have a crown on the heel. %26amp; they%26#039;re the 2 for 5 kind. and they turned my feet green. i%26#039;ve heard of jewelry doin that, but flip flops?? am i the only one or has this happened to NEone else?

Sure, Old Navy flips flops are great. Probably why you have them in every color. They are durable, flexible, they are made very nicely. Abercrombie Flip Flops -- not so much. They won%26#039;t hold up as long as your old navy flip flops do. They are not as durable. I have 3 pairs of old navy flip flops that i have had for a few years now and they are still looking great and holding up well, my Abercrombie flip flops have already been throw away once. I did buy another pair because they are so darn cute, but they really aren%26#039;t as comfy and they don%26#039;t hold up very well. The bottom of mine wore out real quick and the thong part where your toes go detached from the sandal while i was walking... at Cedar Point to be exact and i ended up having to buy ugly water shoes to wear. =( So my point is they are cute, but definaltely not durable like the Old Navy sandals are! Hope I could help.

I would just like to know what Filipino people think of foreigners wearing flip flops in places like malls and such? I see people, including foreigners, dressing inappropriately everyday. You should dress according to where you are. It is not appropriate to wear your bath robe to the mall, why would you wear your beach attire there. People eating do not necessarily enjoy you parading around with naked feet. If shoes do not fit with your outfit, may be your outfit does not fit.


While I am at it let me point out some other gross dressing and conduct faux paux. Many people , particularly foreigners ,like to wear big baggy T-shirts which expose their naked arm pits and half their floppy chest. There is some attire that is just not suited for some people. Many of the men wearing %26quot;athletic%26quot; T-shirts are not athletes. A four hundred pound fat dude or dudette should not wear a thong. It is simply ugly and gross. I do not care how comfortable you are; it makes others uncomfortable. If you do not care what people think of you at least have consideration for what others have to suffer.


You do not walk around the mall in your athletic jock strap. You do not scratch your butt and adjust your family jewels in public. You do not cough or spit in polite company without labeling yourself as an uncouth boob. Why would you think dressing for the beach would be appropriate for the mall? Do you also wear your pajamas to the cinema?


A lot of people, particularly young people want to %26quot;express themselves%26quot;. Usually at someone elses expense.


If you see someone walking down the street dress like a police officer, you think he is probably a policeman. If you see a man dressed like a soldier you figure he is a military man. So it is natural when you see a man dressed like a slob with no regard for anyone but his own comfort, you figure he is an insensitive selfish slob. No, you ain%26#039;t %26quot;Kool Dude%26quot;.

But, as in any country, if the establishment is a tad classier for you to be wearing fliflops inside, don%26#039;t even attempt to try to get in. Leather sandals are more supportive to your feet, and you can find some very comfortable styles. They%26#039;re also more professional to wear to work. Eddie Bauer also made a new pair of very comfortable flip flops this summer. The straps were made from elastic, and the sole was very comfortable for long term walking. Only downside was that running was hazardous, as the sole would occasionally snag the ground and trip you.

OK, I have been told by a ton of people (Guys and Girls) that if I%26#039;m going to wear Flip-flops I have to paint my toes!!!!! What is the Big Deal??? What is this a Rule among men that toes cannot show unless they have color on them???? I just don%26#039;t get it... if God intended for our toes to have color I think he would have created us with colorful toes.... Reply:I don%26#039;t paint my toes very often, but I always wear flip-flops. Just make sure you are keeping them really neat! Long toe-nails look bad (ewww!) and so do round ones. Make sure when you cut your toe-nails, your cutting them straight across, so it gives you foot a good shape. Also get a foot file and/or a pumice stone and scrub all the dead skin off!! Happy flip-flopping!!

I used to think like you, I thought it didn%26#039;t matter either way as long as my feet were manicured and the toenails were properly maintained.

How do you wear flip flops in public?

I am a big tom-boy and whenever I see all these girls wearing flip flops with cute outfits I go how do they do that?





My feet do not look the best. The whole sole of my feet is tough and if it gets really dirty the dirt stains no matter how much I scrub them. My toenails are also really tough and when I clip them the first clip makes them break strait across and I never can get a good shape. Would it look better to paint your toenails or just file them up good? I never get the way you paint them either. Do you paint them one color you like and then wear that color with any outfit? Or should I make them like french tips? Does that stuff (By Olay I think) that is a warming scrub for you feet to get them %26quot;sandal ready%26quot; really work?





What kinds of clothes do you wear flip flops with? Shorts, jeans, ect? I really don%26#039;t wear shirts unless I have to.





Oh, and how do you keep your flip flops from getting the %26quot;Dirt print%26quot; where your toes and heel rub on them so much it leaves a print?

wear anything with flip flops. File down ur toenails and paint them a bright color, orange or pink or purple. i just paint mine one color and wear it for about a week then repaint with a different color or the same if i like it. Dont do a french manicure unless u have really good toenails. i have this pumice thingy thats shaped like a foot and is kinda like sandpaper and it gets my feet smooth but im not sure what its called sorry. THe sandal ready stuff probably works cause i had the stuff like that for your face and it really heats up on ur face. If ur toenails always break when u clip them, just file them down a bunch instead. i always get the dirt print on my shoes, but when mine get really dirty, i get water and soap and scrub at them with a toothbrush.

Reply:Soak your feet in warm water and %26quot;foot bath%26quot; soap (you can find this at the drugstore). Get a pumice and scrub your feet once the skin has softened in the bath. Push your cuticles back and apply a little cuticle oil (or just plain olive oil), cut your nails straight across with a good clippers or scissors. You don%26#039;t have to paint, but if you choose to it will take practice. I suggest a clear coat to make the nail appear healthy, but won%26#039;t matter if it turns out a little sloppy. Keep your feet clean and your flops will stay clean too. Gold, silver, and bronze colored sandals are in style and look good with a wide range of outfits, but a solid black or brown is nice too. Go for it!
Reply:You should try getting a pedicure. You can get them for as cheap as $20 and it%26#039;ll last you for a few weeks. They can do some pretty amazing things with ugly feet and will get the nail polish to stay. (No, you don%26#039;t need to change nail polish with every outfit). You can wear absolutely anything you want with flip flops. I personally think bramuda shorts look so cute with flip flops! As for the dirt spray some laundry stain remover on the dirt and scrub it. Then go outside and power wash them with the hose.... works everytime for me :)





I have pretty rough feet too, let me tell you a pedicure makes your feet 10 times brighter and prettier. Oh yeah and personally i would recomment a solid color polish rather than a french pedicure.... solid colors last longer. Once a french chips... its done because the base color is very light translucent pink.

Tennis shoes and cotton socks are a good option, because if the feet sweat, the cotton socks are a good barrier for fungus. Flip flops should only be worn if you have nice looking feet and they are constantly kept up(pedicures).

Should teenage guys wear flip flops to school?

ive seen a couple guys at my school wear them, and since my feet get hot from wearing shoes sometimes, i want to start wearing flip flops more often. Alot of guys waer %26quot;rainbow%26quot; flip flops without socks or anything and i have a pair....should i wear them??

dude, pitch the rainbow flops, get your self some cool DC%26#039;s, or Sunik flops. Where them everyday if you want too. persoally anyday over 36 degrees is good enough for me. that is my rule.

Reply:It can be hot if you have the right location and the right outfit to match it with. Cali schools near the beach make it generally acceptable. Also, you must have good looking feet, cut toenails, and no bad smells.

Reply:Out here in California, tons of people your age wear flip flops. Personally, I think they look bad, particularly on guys. Men should never, ever wear flip flops. And sandals on guys are difficult to pull off (I don%26#039;t mean to remove from your feet).





If you absolutely must wear something open-toed, maybe you could go with soccer slides? Of course, it would help if you play soccer.





And I agree with the gal who suggested the pedicure! I%26#039;ve only known a few men with decent-looking feet. Getting a pedicure is not a girly thing to do--it is considerate to those who have to look at your feet!
Reply:Haha... For the people that don%26#039;t know what %26quot;Rainbow%26quot; sandals are, Rainbow is the brand. They%26#039;re not rainbow colored, but rather fairly sleek and fairly expensive. I have a pair myself and a ton of my friends also have them.





I like to wear them when I sport my khaki shorts or jeans. They look good if you%26#039;re trying to hit a relax look, but they%26#039;re terrible for days when you have science labs to do.

Reply:A lot of guys at my school wear them when the weather is warm. None of them are gay. I like to wear them because my feet stay cool, plus they are really comfortable and have good arch support. They look good with cargo shorts or ripped jeans. Rainbows are cool, but I have Reefs.
