Is wearing flip flops all the time bad for your feet?

I wear flip flops pretty much all year round and am barefoot indoors. I have heard this is bad for my feet because of no arch support with the flip flops or when barefoot. But my feet feel more comfortable this way.

Is wearing flip flops all the time bad for your feet?
Contrary to popular belief, feet do NOT need support. From %26quot;Survey in China and India of Feet That Have Never Worn Shoes,%26quot;

One hundred and eighteen of those interviewed were rickshaw coolies. Because these men spend very long hours each day on cobblestone or other hard roads pulling their passengers at a run it was of particular interest to survey them. If anything, their feet were more perfect than the others. All of them, however, gave a history of much pain and swelling of the foot and ankle during the first few days of work as a rickshaw puller. But after either a rest of two days or a week%26#039;s more work on their feet, the pain and swelling passed away and never returned again. There is no occupation more strenuous for the feet than trotting a rickshaw on hard pavement for many hours each day yet these men do it without pain or pathology.

Nor does it cause flat feet to go barefoot, rather it%26#039;s shoes that cause flat feet, especially in children. From %26quot;The Influence of Footwear on the Prevalence of Flat Foot,%26quot;

In Europe and America flat foot is a common reason for attendance at a children%26#039;s orthopaedic clinic, but in India children are seldom brought for treatment for flat foot. The few children who do attend with this complaint are from affluent urban families and they all wear shoes. In our clinic we have never seen a child from the farming community or from the family of a manual labourer who complained of flat foot.

...

The high concentration of flat foot among six-year-old children who wore shoes as compared with those who did not, implies that the critical age for development of the arch is before six years.

...

Our cross-sectional study suggests that shoe-wearing in early childhood is detrimental to the development of a normal or a high medial longitudinal arch. The susceptibility for flat foot among children who wear shoes is most evident if there is associated ligament laxity. We suggest that children should be encouraged to play unshod and that slippers and sandals are less harmful than closed-toe shoes.

Reply:yes.

it can even make you have flat feet over time.
Reply:no
Reply:yes. it does not support the arch of your foot, and can lead to problems,
Reply:Just get a nice pair; with good arch support. A pair of Rainbows would do! They are only like 40-50 bucks; and they are leather so they go with everything. You can even make them work with certain dresses.
Reply:Its probably not great for your feet. And it can make them all dried out.
Reply:i think so, i think the risks of getting varicose veins or whatever is higher...i can%26#039;t stand being barefoot, gross....
Reply:Yes, wearing flip flops will lead to problems over time. Not only will it cause your arches to fall over time, but they don%26#039;t provide proper ankle stability, which could lead to other kinds of injuries. Just because they are comfortable, it doesn%26#039;t mean they are good for you! And for those who suggest just getting flip flops with arch support, I don%26#039;t buy into that. I think those arch supports are mainly for aesthetic purposes since these sort of sandals are popular nowadays, so it%26#039;s just a marketing tactic -- I tend to believe flip flops and arch supports to be an oxymoron.
Reply:well no

but you can get an impleasant odor

lol
Reply:It can be depending on what kind of flip flops because they don%26#039;t provide support to your feet. Rainbows are good because they shape to your foot which provides support.
Reply:they are bad for you when you are doing athletic thinks..it puts pressure on your knees and causes trauma to your spine....for normal time to time they are fine...
